HMI screens
Customer: PowderCoil™
Duration: 6 months
Tools: Adobe XD & Illustrator, Miro, Zoom
Key players: PowderCoil™, third party developers, users (operators at the plant)
PowderCoil™ is a growing leader in the powder coil coating industry. Their patented methods improve the coating’s uniformity and durability at speeds that are comparable to liquid coil coating systems.
Summary
This project focused on creating a Human-Machine Interface (HMI) for operators to use on the production floor in order to control aspects of the coating process to achieve consistency and quality on every job.
Problem
PowderCoil™ did not have an efficient way to operate controls on the production floor.
How might we...
.... help operators consistently produce a high quality item and easily understand a new tool to assist with their tasks.
Solution
Create modern screens that include the necessary user interactions to complete tasks.
Include universal HMI style to bring familiarity to the operators since HMI screens do have a certain look and feel in the industrial process space.
Conclusion
In order to bring this concept to life, I met with the developers, the stakeholders, and operators throughout the project; both together and separate.
We began by using the tool Miro for visual collaboration and brainstorming. Once we began hi-fi prototyping we switched over to Adobe XD and eventually collaborated there.
When the project concluded, everyone very pleased with the final outcome.
